Only a limited number of spiro compounds has been reported in which both components have a phosphazene or phosphazenelike skeleton. The first member of this class, viz. NP[(NPCl2)2NCH3](NPCl2)2 (Fig. l.A), was prepared by Lehr [2] by means of a Kirsanov conversion of (NPC12)2NP(NH2)2 into (NPC12)2NP(NPC13)2, followed by a ring closure reaction using [(CH3)3Si]2NCH3. Two other routes have been described by Schmidpeter and Eiletz, in which [N(PPh2NH2)2]+Cland PC13 [3] or [NPR21C1PR22C1]+CL and (NPPh2)2NP(NH2)2 [4] are used as starting materials. Both routes lead to spiro compounds of the general formula NP[NPR21NHPR22N](NPPh2)2 (Fig. IB).
